Less financial stress is worth the smaller closet in my book! So excited for you and your fam! ❤️

Agreed! And I'm going to have enough space with the off-season closet, which will also force me to see what I haven't worn that season. Maybe it's more the stress of going from having my own closet to sharing one with a boy Haha.

He gets approximately ¼ of the closet and that’s it 😜

The first time we saw the closet, I looked at him and was like so where are your clothes going? 🤣

I LOVED your instagram post about this last week. Resonated with your sentiment so much about living in a way that's truly connected to your values as a family ❤️

Oh I’m so happy to hear that it resonated!!! :)

I grew up in a small house - shared one bathroom with my two brothers and it was never a problem. If anything the house brought us closer together as a family. I’ll also advocate for smaller square footage so you can make every inch your own instead of spreading yourself too thin

I grew up sharing a bathroom and it was fine. I couldn't agree more on the square footage so we can really focus on making each room feel like home vs. being overwhelmed by too much space, especially when we don't use half of it.

I love the idea of simpler! That is definitely my motto this year, less and simpler makes my life so much easier! Also love the off season closet, in cali and our house is tiny so it’s great to have ideas like that to make the current living space work!

In 2024 my husband and I bought a 1916 craftsman and I have spent the last two years completely renovating it from top to bottom. It’s about 2700 ft.² and we thought that we would love having enough space coming from a significantly smaller house; turns out we were greatly mistaken. Sometimes what we think that we need turns out not to be the case and are getting ready to list it for something that works better for us as a family. Everyone has different needs and finding out, sometimes through trial and error, what works best for you is a great peace of mind.

Oh wow. And 1916, too! I love an old home! Did it feel too big when you first walked through or was that something you felt after living there for a little while?

I think we were in love with the potential and the opportunity for change. However, after living in the house and using really only certain rooms, we realized what we actually needed was different from what we had.

That was us exactly. We wanted to restore this house and really needed a change coming off covid and my daughter being sick. I'm so glad we had this opportunity. The setting was so beautiful, and we learned what we want/need.

We are 3 years away from our daughter leaving that a big house is not worth our investment! We are renters and in the market for another rental but there’s a part of me that wants my own house and a new kitchen but it may not be in the cards. I think we will eventually land up in an apartment… it’s so nice to read another perspective - when something is too big - it swallows you whole… I think you made the best decision
