Weekend Reading #58
How I spent the first week back to school, how I'm finally going to bed at a reasonable hour, surgery, PTSD, new ADHD meds, and recent finds.
Happy Saturday and happy first week back to school to those who celebrate! Parents, how are you doing? In today’s newsletter, I’m going to talk about how I’m getting into a groove with work again, and some health updates on medication, surgery, and how PTSD got the best of me this week.
The girls started school and had a great first week! This is the first time they’ve been at the same school, and it’s so nice having one drop-off and pickup. Things are quieter at home, we have a nanny (who we love), and I can focus.
Mornings are rushed and exhausting, mostly because my kids don’t like to eat right when they wake up. I’ve been adding these multivitamins to yogurt and smoothies, and Conor has been making eggs which they’ve been eating, but I’ll take any breakfast ideas or tips to get kids to eat if you have them.
Sleep and Health Updates
I only stayed up late one night this week which is so big for me! I take two of these sleep gummies at 9PM and I’m out by 10:30. These work well, too, but I’ve found that the CBD/THC really knocks me out.
I also went for a weighted vest walk, a regular walk, took in more protein, stayed on top of drinking water (thanks to these electrolytes), and have been taking my vitamins (which are 40% off) and my toning gummies, too. I am so committed to moving my body more that I bought a new jogging stroller (on sale, $200 off).
My doctor upped my ADHD medication dose from 10mg to 30mg which feels like a huge jump, but she said 10 is a really low dose and she wasn’t shocked that I wasn’t feeling anything.
And…I finally started recording my podcast! After watching Jason Kelce record in a room with a fridge and a baby crying in the background, I realized it doesn’t have to be perfect and I went for it. I’ve got the intro, outro, trailer, and an “about me” episode done, which feels like progress. I’ve been second-guessing myself and got stuck in a bit of analysis paralysis, but it’s coming together. May need to re-record (we’ll see what my friends and producer say), but starting felt good.
Cozy moments like this almost have me ready for my favorite fall candle. Almost. This sweet girl had some tummy issues yesterday and threw up all over the house so that was fun. I fell for an IG ad last week and this arrived today. Good timing.
I finally shared the girls’ bathroom on my blog.
I made a few stress/surgery prep purchases and updated my shopbop hearts
This is enormous and goes against everything I like in a toy but Jack is very into all the Paw Patrol guys right now.
I ordered this Bingo Squishmallow, too.
My kids loved playing with this basketball hoop at our friends’ house so I ordered one.
I ordered new bead kits for the girls.
Studio McGee and Serena and Lily’s LDW sales have kicked off early. How cute are these little ghosts?
And I restocked my exfoliant.
And onto PTSD and surgery. This is a tough one to share, but hopefully it will help someone.
