Weekend Reading #57
ADHD struggles, new outfits, a big swimsuit sale, and how we're spending our last weekend before school starts.
Hi! Happy Saturday. I am finishing this on Friday night at 11PM. My sister flew in to surprise the kids for the weekend, and kicked off the weekend by seeing Cynthia Erivo at Ravinia. Her voice is unparalleled. We’re going to take the kids to the air and water show because my toddler son gets so excited every time he sees a normal airplane in the sky, so he’s going to lose his mind.
Conor had some work downtown, so the girls and I had a little fun, and the four of us met for lunch at RL. That patio is one of my favorite spots.
I think we’ll grill tonight and go to the pool, and try to enjoy a little downtime before the girls start school on Monday. I’d love to make special back to school bracelets for the girls so they have something special to wear that connects us on their first day. I’m also hoping to catch up on And Just Like That (yes, I know it’s terrible but I can’t stop) and Dexter.
Both girls got the teachers I hoped for, and I was so happy and relieved that my kindergartener was placed with the one little girl she’s friends with. They’ll even be at the same table! My second grader isn’t with 3/4 of her best friends, and was a tough one to talk through. I think it was a really good lesson for her, and it might actually be good for her since she gets a little distracted. Not sure where she gets that. 😬
Which, speaking of distracted, someone commented yesterday on the “so many typos” a recent post. I had someone look over the post and they found two, and mistakes happen so that’s ok, but it was sort of a wake-up call as to how scattered I’ve been. I came back to that post several times over the course of two days to finish it because that’s life right now, and I moved the list around, so things got a little sloppy.
Going into summer, I knew I didn’t want to sit at a desk all day—it was always my plan to actually get to have some fun with my kids. I still worked, but my hours were so stupid, and the late nights really took a toll. My work hours are also broken up or come with a lot of distraction, so I haven’t been on top of things at all. My ADHD has been worse than ever lately, and I need to figure out a better medication. I’m seeing my primary care doc this week and want to chat through some options, and I’m also hopeful that I’ll feel less distracted with the girls in school? I don’t know. We’ll see. I have a lot more to say about this, and will work on my monthly BTS post soon.
I do feel like I need to get a better grip on the work I already have this week and then dive into recording. I’m going to do a little writing and research, but feel like there’s no way my brain can handle adding something new the first week the girls go back to school.
I had a pile of clothes to try on sitting in a basket in my closet for two weeks, and I finally got it done. Conor even took a few photos of me which I’m the most awkward at, but we did it. Everything’s linked here.
If you have little kids, please watch this one.
And speaking of safety, I pride myself on always being prepared with a first aid kit but took the car I don’t usually take and for some reason, my first aid kit wasn’t in there. My little car emergency box was, so we had neosporin, but I highly recommend buying these mini first aid kits and always keeping one in your bag if you have little kids.
And I’ll end things with a few links
Get 30% off all swim at Left on Friday. They also make my favorite workout leggings that have replaced all my Lululemon aligns. The fit is even better and they’re so soft.
Save 30% on Larroude’s new styles.
I can’t remember if I shared these, but my girls love these things, and there are now Hello Kitty and Harry Potter versions.
My apple watch charging dock is on sale.
I just ordered these for the girls for back to school. This is a great deal, too.
I keep forgetting to share this one, but I use this spray bottle on all the kids in the morning. It gives the perfect mist, and makes it easier to brush through their hair.
Alex Mill brought back my cotton cashmere cardigan. I have it in navy and am planning on buying one more. It’s under $180 and so easy to wear.
How pretty are these chocolate brown flats? I love this mesh version, too.
I broke out my Colby Pant and decided that I need to order one or two more pairs. they’re the most comfortable (elastic!) and I feel so good in them. And they now come in a knit, too! Speaking of La Ligne, this dress is still available in a few sizes and is so pretty on.
This linen dress is on sale!
Off to take Buzz to see the airplanes!
Have a great weekend! And if your kids are going back to school this week, enjoy this last week of summer break, but remember that summer isn’t over yet! We’ll be at the pool as much as possible through LDW. I really want to make the most of it.
Another great post, thank you. Your Instagram reel on the importance of never taking our eyes off little ones in water was great. You're very good at writing these medical things to be aware of. Having you ever considered writing a post on dry-drowning symptoms in toddlers? That's also a real danger in young children, but it's one that many otherwise well-informed parents are completely unaware of. [Sorry - as if you didn't have enough excellent ideas of your own for writing, but when I watched the Instagram reel, I thought of dry-drowning dangers]. Just my uninvited two-cents worth. I always enjoy reading your posts, and I think you do such a good job of informing people of medical concerns and interests generally.
