My New Nose, The Nostalgic Craft Kit We All Need, Plus What I Wore, Bought, and Liked This Week
Oh, hi! I’m back (ish). My stitches and bandages are off, but I am very swollen so things aren’t exactly normal. I did get out a few times and gave myself a (clean) tan. It’s also been really hot and the air quality is horrendous. Heat and swelling do not mix, so I’ve been laying low at home. We’re moving in less than a month, so there’s lots of organizing and packing to do.
Let’s get to it.
KIDS AND CRAFTS
I organized the kids’ rooms and told the girls we needed to either fix all their broken Lego sets or put them in a bin so they could build whatever they want. They decided to have some fun building, and then I did what I do best, and found what I thought would be the best way to organize their Legos.
I ended up with two of these boxes and inserts. The boxes are huge, so one holds their Legos and the other holds pieces they’re working on. The box lids are also a great “workspace” for Legos, and the trays, which are perfect for organizing pieces by type fit right inside.
We did a bunch of crafting, too, as per usual, and I used my recovery time to create my “camp mom” boxes.
If you were a child of the 80s you need this craft kit. I just got it and can’t wait to do it with the girls.
I bought two of these $6 boxes and trays to organize everything. All the craft supplies I used can be found here.
The girls loved crafting with whipped cream glue, and this nano tape was really fun, but required adult assistance.
POST-OP UPDATE
My stitches are out, and getting them removed wasn’t bad at all! I was told the removal can be painful and I don’t have the highest pain tolerance, so that was a relief. One stitch pinched a little bit, and the rest felt like nothing.
I thought I was going to share the big reveal day of, but the swelling was wild, and I didn’t feel ready. I still don’t. Talking to Julia about her experience (and knowing how normal swelling is) helped a lot, but it’s been an adjustment looking so different.
The swelling was awful days 2-4 (I shared the day-by-day healing process here) but looks a lot better now. The bruising under my eyes has gotten a lot better, too. I’ve been using this silicone scar tape on my scars and icing around (not on) my nose.
WEARING
Lots of Lake pajamas.
I went out a few times — to the doctor and to run a few errands and wore the usual: Donni Pants (sold out, similar under $100 pair here) , gingham shorts, and linen tanks.
I ran an errand in a large hat and these pants, too.
My new bag came from Vivrelle and I love it so much, although if I were to buy it, I’d get the large. I’ll probably keep it through September and then borrow something else. Use code DANIELLEMOSS for your first month free!
BUYING
I bought this dress for my friend’s wedding in CA this September.
I’m sharing more below, but I started searching for these Lego sets for the girls on eBay and FB Marketplace, and got some really good deals. I lived for Legos as a kid so I am loving every moment of this, and it feels pretty good paying $40 for a $120 set.
I also ordered the kids’ their new school backpacks. The coated backpacks hold up for at least two years, and stay so clean.
The people buying our house were interested in our patio furniture, and while I love it, we need a larger dining table, so we’re selling it to them, and I’m on the hunt for a table and chairs.
LINKS
My self-tanner is 25% off. I just opened a new bottle, so it’s time for a restock.
I’m not usually a fan of sheer bras, but I love this one. And it’s made by the company that makes the bra I wear every day so you know it has to be comfortable.
The Farmer’s Dog offered to send some food for Dottie to try, and I can’t remember why I switched Buddy to Nom Nom, but the reviews for The Farmer’s Dog are better, and we’ll save around $1 a day, so I think we’re going to switch back. Get 60% off your first box.
Doen is having a sale. I love this top with these pants.
This dress is on sale, too.
My Alex Mill shorts are on sale. I have the stripe but might snag the navy or brown linen.
The linen dress I have in red and brown is 50% off in yellow.
My kids’ favorite air dry clay is on sale. They can easily go through 20 in a day, but it keeps them busy for hours!
Our Bluey Tonies arrived and have been such a hit with all 3 kids! The girls even listen while they build Legos during their brother’s nap time.
Serena and Lily is having a tent sale! I’ve been looking at a few pieces for the new house, and linked everything here.
IN CASE YOU MISSED IT
I updated The Best Gifts for 5 Year-Olds and 8 Year-olds.
MY (SWOLLEN) POST-OP NOSE
I had planned on sharing the reveal when I had the bandages removed, but the swelling looked like a ball at the end of my nose, so it wasn’t the moment I had hoped for. That said, I want to share where I’m at with those of you who are following along.
I am VERY swollen and my nose is purple but very dry, so it’s hard to cover with makeup, and I have silicone scar tape on my columella, too, but I can tell that I’m going to be very happy with the shape. So here it is. 😬
