Notes From The Week, 3.8
Where we stayed in California, what I worked on this week, a Substack refresh, and a surprise for my girl.
Greetings from California! I traveled to San Diego with my oldest we had to make a stop at Disneyland, just like I did with her little sister earlier this year. I realize this is probably the only time we’ll do solo Disney trips, but we needed this time together, and the girls don’t like the same rides, so the timing felt perfect to do this.
Getting here wasn’t exactly fun, but we made it, and it was so worth it. We pushed our 8AM flight to 3PM since she wasn’t feeling great the night before. I honestly didn’t know if we were going to get to travel. Then our flight was delayed over 3 hours, we were given a car with a tire that needed to be replaced, and we almost didn’t get in to our hotel. Sure, I wish we could have had an extra vacation day, but perspective.
It was a good opportunity to talk about how we can be disappointed and grateful for an experience at the same time. Our long travel day didn’t go as planned, at all, but she was ok to travel, and we were together.
And In Case You Missed It…
My CA Packing List
The Invisible Job of Running a Family
What’s New This Week
I wrote this, and always love when something resonates as much as this piece did. I received lots of private messages and emails which means a lot.
I also shared my CA packing list
You may have noticed that my Substack has a fresh new look thanks to the team at Migrate Marketing. I had the BEST experience working with them, and love the new updates. They really listened to my feedback and were truly wonderful. Because people always seem to wonder about these things, I did not promise them a review, and the work was not discounted. Just sharing a great experience with a woman-run small business.
My middle and I both started seeing a chiro this week. I don’t really have an opinion on chiropractic care, but enough people have raved about it, and I’m open to trying things that might help us feel better. I’d love to hear from anyone who saw a difference though!
We finished All Her Fault, and the story was a little out there, but I couldn’t stop watching. If you run anxious like I do, it really isn’t too much, and isn’t what you think. I’d recommend it.
I brought my borrowed Hermes on our trip, and am going to switch it out for this one when we get back. Use code DANIELLEMOSS for your first month free.
Dottie went off to a trainer last week and returns in the next week or so. We were really struggling with accidents and didn’t exactly know what we were doing. I chose a trainer that came highly recommended, but don’t want to share until I can speak to our experience.
A Health Update
You may have noticed that I partnered with Midi Health this week. Midi Health takes insurance and visits are virtual which makes staying consistent with follow-ups so easy. Midi Health clinicians take the changes we start to experience during perimenopause and menopause very seriously, and will work with you to come up with a plan that’s best for you.
I’ve been seeing my Midi clinician for about 8 months now, and just had a follow-up last week. I am feeling lighter, more focused, and my sleep is better, too. After starting HRT, I have felt such a big shift the last few months. We talked through some things that might help with joint pain and inflammation, and I feel like we have a really good plan. We scheduled a follow-up visit later this month, so I’ll report back soon.
We don’t have to feel like this. Sign up for your first visit, and take control of your health.
A Day in San Diego
Our time in SD was short but sweet. We stayed at the same hotel I stayed at with her little sister earlier this year. Breakfast at Morning Glory did not disappoint. The soufflé pancakes were incredible, but get there as close to 8AM as possible if you don’t want to wait forever. Then we did a little shopping since I forgot to pack my favorite shorts for Disneyland.
Shopping was actually really fun. She got to choose small Lego sets for her and her siblings, and we visited Geppetto’s toy store, where she got an iconic pencil case. I may have been more excited about it than she was.
The afternoon was spent with new (old) friends. Erika and I connected almost 5 years ago when her 8 month old was diagnosed with cancer. We stayed in touch, but this was our first time meeting in person. Seeing two healthy survivors together is sort of indescribable. You can’t help but see what a gift doctors, nurses, and modern medicine are. How LUCKY we are to get to watch them grow up.
Then we ordered pizza, built her new Lego set, and watched The Lego Movie (huge hit). The next morning was spent in bed, the doors open to the most beautiful weather and view. Breakfast and coffee in bed, and our favorite game. I don’t really have the attention span for board games, but really enjoy playing this game with my kids.
Her outfit is linked here.
A Surprise
We planned on meeting her LA bestie, another cancer survivor, at Downtown Disney for the day. The girls went to Disneyland together a little over three years ago and have gotten together in both LA and Chicago, so when we separately told each of them they were going to see someone special this weekend, they guessed each other. 💞 Then we made the last-minute decision to buy tickets and spend the afternoon at Disneyland. My feet were sore after 4 hours, so I want to know how people do this 4-5 days in a row. I’m tired!
I’ll also get to see E’s mom again in a little over a week at ALSF’s advisory board meeting. I’ve done a lot of traveling (for me) this year. Three trip so CA, fly out for a day next week, and we’re traveling for spring break, too.
Buying a ticket to go to Disneyland for the afternoon probably sounds crazy, or at least it does to me. There was a time where we didn’t know if we would get moments like this, which are the best part about being a mom. It changes you (in a good way), and things like this always feel worth it.
Recent Purchases
I did what felt like a lot of spring and vacation shopping for the kids since they don’t have much that fits. Everyone needed new shoes and swimsuits, the girls needed a few basics, and my son woke up one day and nothing fit, so he needed almost everything. I just ordered a few pairs of joggers, sweatshirts, and some tees. He got a few cute sets from Minnow and our favorite shorts, too.
I’m really trying to capsule their wardrobes with great basics, but want it all pared down. I’ll put together a list of everything I bought but for now, you can see a few things here.
Enjoy the rest of your weekend!

Another wonderful post. It sounds like the two of you had a great time! That's so important. You're wise to do these one-on-one trips with your kids. You're creating such special memories for each of them, and for you, doing this. You're a wonderful mom.
