A few weeks ago, I promised I’d share exactly how I approach SEO, or search engine optimization. I want to share the process and tools behind posts that are still driving traffic to my site years after I hit publish. Along with the tools I use, I’m going to share how I pick topics, and how I think about updating what’s already out there.

My organic traffic started out around 12,000–13,000 monthly before I started optimizing my content for SEO. It grew from there, and peaked at just over 130,000 monthly visitors in November 2024. Then everything changed, which I’ll get to below, and I'm currently sitting at around 50,300. That 50k is still bringing in thousands in affiliate revenue each month.

I’M GOING TO COVER:

  • The tools I actually use, and what each one is for

  • How I decide what to write which isn’t always “strategy first”

  • What I do once I have a keyword

  • Real examples: a post with ~10 million impressions, one with 3 million, one with 2 million

  • How I think about updating old posts

If you have a blog and aren’t optimizing your content, or if you're thinking about starting one, this is for you.
