I’ve been going down a Pinterest rabbit hole, looking up design inspiration, furniture, and wallpaper for our new home. It will be a few months before we move, but I have some big decisions to make, and it’s fun to think about these things. I am feeling a mix of excitement and overwhelm. More than anything, I want to have some ideas for our kids’ rooms so I’ll be able to get those spaces feeling like home.

When we bought this house, there was a beautiful fabric that I loved for my oldest. I had a bed and window treatments made for her room, but they weren’t right, and I had to start over. With our next home, I want to finalize all of those design details before pulling any triggers. I don’t want to rush the process, but I also want my kids to feel settled.

This post is a little long, so click through to Substack to read the whole thing. And if you like this kind of content and want to support my work, give it a heart.

A Note on Trade Fabrics

There are a few ways to access trade fabrics without hiring a full-service designer. That’s not in my budget either, but there are designers who offer hourly consulting, which can be such a good middle ground. Many of these fabrics and wallpapers are also available at various shops online. I tried to link to a few of those.

Another option would be to find a local upholsterer or designer who does window treatments. I love Michelle of White Tea and Lilac Designs. She was able to order fabric for the cafe curtains for both of my kids’ bathrooms, and I plan on hiring her to make window treatments for our new home.

Here are all the swatches I’ve ordered for my home.

This one is available as a linen wall covering and fabric. I think it would be so pretty to match an upholstered bed and walls in a print like this one. I ordered this in every color so I could see all of them and play around, but this the blue on white is my favorite. You can order it in white on blue here.

This stripe is so pretty in green. Not sure what I’d pair it with just yet.

Read on for the rest of the swatches I ordered yesterday, plus the wallpaper I chose for my 5 year-old’s room. Her eyes lit up when I showed it to her, and it works perfectly with our guest room bed.
