Breast reduction and lift Q&A, 2 months later
I'm answering all your questions about my breast reduction and lift
It’s been 2 months since my reduction and lift. I wrote a blog post that answers some of my most-asked questions, but wanted to do a follow up here, too. I’ve heard from a handful of you who have had or are preparing to have the same procedure, and many of you who hope to do this someday.
I’m also going to discuss the cost and the one thing I wish I had done differently.
Why did you do it?
Because I was a G and extremely unhappy with this part of my body. They were really big which did not feel great physically or mentally, and they did not stay up, so I found myself wearing a bra 24/7. I’ll be honest and tell you I hated the way they looked even more than the way they felt. If you’re in a similar position, this bra was great.
Was it worth it?
Absolutely. I would do it again in a heartbeat, and am so glad I did it when I did. Just the lift portion alone would have been worth it, but I went from a G to a C and am just so much more comfortable in my body.
My youngest was about 6 months when I had surgery which might sound like a less than ideal time to do it. But given my circumstances, it was perfect for our family. I wanted to do it before he was mobile. This is also speaking from the privileged position of having an au pair and a realtor husband who is flexible and able to help with the kids.
Do you even wear a bra now?
Ha. I do, but I don’t sleep in one or wear one around the house anymore. They stay up on their own which is INCREDIBLE, so I could go braless. I’ve just found that I’m not running around town in a sweatshirt or sweater without a bra. I definitely won’t have to wear a bra with my nap dresses this summer though.
How is the scarring?
I got a lot of questions about this but remember – this was my 2nd reduction. The scars are red but not horrible, and the “after” is so worth some scars. They will lighten up over time. I wanted to wait until everything was fully healed before using any silicone scar strips or cream and now that I’m there, plan to start. I did have the derm do a cortisone injection which should also smooth things out (I think?).
What bras are you wearing?
I am in a very weird bra place since I’m not wearing underwires yet. This isn’t cute at all but I love commando (so comfortable) so I’ve mostly been wearing this and a few other bralettes.
Read on for what I’d do differently, the cost, and what I wish I knew.
Is there anything you’d do differently?
There is, and it’s pretty big.
